When I first started playing FPS games online I used "Futility" as my IGN and after a few weeks of pubbing on Tribes, I was recruited by the top Renegades mod team at the time, Strategic Team Dominance. Another female gamer on the team named StarDust helped me learn how to properly play the game and I burst into competitive gaming with an immediate impact, scoring 42 points and getting 3 flag captures during my first scrimmage with my new clan.
Unfortunately, that was also when I realized that a large percentage of the gaming community couldn't handle losing to a female gamer at the time. It seemed that the more games I won, the more people hated me for it. So after a while of listening to their crap, I came up with the "ViXeN" idea. It began as a kind of a parody of several types of gamers that annoyed me:
* The arrogance of certain "elite" players irritated me so I gave them a little bit of their own crap.
* The "raped" comments always annoyed me so I started my own "castration" taunt. ;O)
* Sexism was pretty bad when I first started in online gaming. Its still an issue today but not even close to what it was back then. Anyway, I gave the guys some sexism of my own, constantly trashtalking about how guys suck, how I always own them, etc...
* Certain female gamers spent most of their time flirting with the guys on the forums and weren't truly gamers. I have a pretty negative view of them because I feel that they were part of the problem and made it harder for the rest of us to be taken seriously. Vixen was a common name among those types of players so that was where it came from. It was used to mock them.
After I managed to piss off half the community (mostly from a certain forum), I was done with my joke. The problem was that even when I changed my name people still called me Vixy. And I had developed quite a reputation among the people who hated me and also the people who loved ViXeN because of how I stood up to people and didn't take any crap. Anyway, the name seemed to stick with me, so I kept it. ViXeN is basically an exaggerated version of myself.
